This is a disease that has been labeled a silent epidemic and it's about time people educate themselves. My daughter and I made this video a few years back our mission is to spread awareness. This disease hits close to home as My mother contracted it 33 years ago through a blood transfusion. She is a non responder, I think it's her family's support that keeps her going each day. Some days are harder than the last. HEPATITIS C is a blood to blood disease. My video explains what it is all about, Just because I am not infected does not mean that I am not Affected, Knowledge is power and all it takes is a simple blood test to be sure. To the people who have contracted this -to their families you are not alone, there are support groups for you. Jaime RacetteMy heart goes out to those who have contracted this disease and who are Infected and to those family members who are Affected, Show support and spread awareness you are not alone :) I eduacted myself so I could have a better understanding so I could be supportive to my mom. I post this video every May on the local news websites, and on my pages, May is national Hepatitis C month, I have educated my now 7 year old so she can better understand when Gramma is too tired or sore to play. Affected but not infected, This disease is misinterpreted; It's not only a "druggie" disease; this silent epidemic has many ways of contracting it; unfortunately my mother received this disease through a blood transfusion that was suppose to save her life; now due to the hospitals negligence she obtained tainted blood and her life has been cut shorter.
My mom is in the later stages of Hepatitis C. She has cirrhosis of the liver, and treatments have been ineffective. She has no one else to turn to medically there is nothing no one can do for her. Pain killers are ineffective and not numbing the pain; leaving her with no comfort.
Day to day life for her includes chronic fatigue. There's days where her whole body just aches, and when her liver becomes inflamed, it's putting pressure on the other organs. Life with Hepatitis C - I don't wish it on anybody.
Where are the posters showing blood transfusions, tainted blood and or blood products? I feel people should be more informed about this disease. My Mother is a fighter, I envy her. My daughter and I made a video as there was a contest. We came in third place, I didn't do the video for the money, that was never in my mind set when I entered this my sole purpose to why I did it was to support my mother it was a great opportunity to send a message out there to others to get tested (and I still send out this video every chance I get), to educate themselves, that there are websites filled with information; hepcontario.ca is one of them.
